In fact, one person’s dissertation focused on the importance of the historic mansion and the family that lived in it.
The Historic York Inn / Smyser-Bair House Bed & Breakfast is on the Federal Governments’ National Register of Historic Places as well as the York Historic Walking Tour. It has been a stop on the York Home and Garden Tour and is listed as a preferred place for guests of the Mid Atlantic Garden Show. The home was featured on national television in 2007, and again in 2008, and 2009 for its unique embellishments, luxurious charm, and rich history. The purchase by the current innkeepers made front page news and prompted several news stories.

The home was opened up to displaced victims of the recent Katrina hurricane, garnering a letter of appreciation from the Mayor. In 2008, Hilary Clinton even stopped by while campaigning for the presidency. Not to mention an entertaining visit from The Drifters. Bestselling novelist Steve Berry recently donated a copy of his New York Times Bestseller, The Amber Room, to the inn for display in York’s Amber Room. Many notable local and regional authors, poets, and musicians have been featured at literary salons and house concerts in the home's parlor.
